Opened in 1916, this two‐story brick structure (currently listed in the National Register of Historic Places) served as a tourist hotel and later provided staff housing for the adjacent San Marcos Resort. The rich history of the Suhwaro Hotel includes Chandler’s first bowling alley, as well as the first library. The building’s Missions Revival style of architecture is reminiscent of the distinct walls of the Alamo.
Desert Viking purchased the vacant and deteriorated Suhwaro Hotel as well as the adjacent Chandler Post Office II
Building in early 1998. Rehabilitating the Historic Suhwaro Hotel entailed constructing a steel frame to support
the original walls while adding a new roof and floors, as well as restoring all of the building’s elevations. The building is
included as a contributing structure of Chandler’s Commercial Historic District and Desert Viking received
the Arizona Heritage Preservation Honor Award for their efforts on this restoration project.

Built in 1954, this two‐story building was the home of Chandler’s second post

from the San Marcos Resort located directly across the street.
Desert Viking purchased the Chandler Post Office II Building in early 1998 and immediately began its rehabilitation,
reinforcing the structure and repairing exterior brickwork. The upstairs hallways and many of the original rooms were restored
while an elevator was added to bring both buildings into ADA compliance without affecting the unique character
of the historic Suhwaro Hotel. Today this commercial building offers first floor restaurant space with second floor office space.
